Hezbollah threats force rival party’s news media to close

All four news media – the terrestrial and satellite TV station Future TV, satellite TV news channel Future News, the daily newspaper Al-Mustakbal and Radio Orient – were forced to stop operating today. “Lebanon is undergoing a serious political crisis and the situation is very disturbing,” the press freedom organisation said. “We hope the gagging of the anti-Syrian parliamentary majority’s news media is not a harbinger of even greater violence. The aggressiveness displayed by Hezbollah militants poses an additional danger for the many journalists covering the clashes on the streets of Beirut. We urge Hezbollah to refrain from attacks on the press.”Rockets were fired early this morning at Al-Mustakbal’s headquarters, starting a fire on one of its floors. Soon afterwards, gunmen surrounded the offices of Future TV, Future News and Radio Orient and threatened to open fire if they did not stop broadcasting. Witnesses said Hezbollah militiamen disabled their video surveillance systems and then disconnected their broadcast cables. Lebanese army soldiers protected employees as they left they buildings to go home.There have been clashes between Hezbollah militiamen and supporters of the anti-Syrian majority for more than 24 hours in several west Beirut neighbourhoods. National commendations for Limerick architectural firm

first_imgEmail Twitter by Rose RusheCastleconnell’s CK HouseLIMERICK  based firm Praxis Architecture, nominated nationally for online voting in the Irish Architecture Awards 2015’s People’s Choice: www.irisharchitectureawards.ie/public-choice/,    had a worthwhile call to Dublin for ceremonies.Sign up for the weekly Limerick Post newsletter Sign Up On June 18 last, the RIAI award event took place and while Michael O’Connor’s Praxis  was not winner, their projects were Commended in relevant categories, Best House and Best Emerging Practice.The nominated structure was CK House, a private dwelling  in Castleconnell designed for a green field site to a brief and budget outlined by the client family.Praxis Architecture’s four-strong staff, working out of Creagh House, was nominated also for Best Emerging Practice, based on their precis of selected projects.Speaking to Limerick Post prior to the industry and consumer-driven awards, O’Connor described the the architecture done by Praxis as “involving a lot of domestic work but we do a lot of other buildings as well”.CK House, Castleconnell, by Praxis ArchitectureClient feedback  had informed some of the entry submission to the Awards. The praise is pointed. “From the outset the architect demonstrated a clear commitment to engage with us/ understand our needs.
