His presence on the field and in the locker room made him one of the vocal leaders for the Wolverines. The senior pass-rusher played through severe pain in the Peach Bowl, as he tried to end his collegiate career on a positive note.Winovich is already considered one of the better prospects at defensive end, and some draft projections have him ranked even higher when listed as an outside linebacker.Unfortunately his absence does give him one less opportunity to shine in front of NFL scouts and executives. From the Detroit Free Press:Former Michigan football star defensive end Chase Winovich won’t play in the Senior Bowl next week due to an ankle injury.Senior Bowl executive director Jim Nagy confirmed the news to the Free Press on Thursday. Winovich had initially accepted an invitation to participate in the annual pre-NFL Draft showcase but pulled out this week due to the injury. It obviously isn’t ideal that he’ll have to miss the Senior Bowl, but it’s more important that Winovich is healthy enough to attend the NFL Combine. The star defender could really boost his draft stock with impressive performances in the physical drills. The Senior Bowl will be played on Jan. 26 at Ladd–Peebles Stadium in Mobile, Ala.[Detroit Free Press]last_img read more
